“He lays it on His shoulders rejoicing” All who have “left their first love” and wandered away from their Savior will know the meaning of this poem. When the Good Shepherd lays you on His shoulders and returns you to His fold you have experienced something you will never forget. His love, gentleness and compassion is not what you expected. A piercing look and words of condemnation is what you deserved but instead you feel the strength of His shoulders and hear His song of rejoicing—“For this My son was lost and is found.” Rejoice with me all who have known this Divine compassion. Like a sheep bleating on the mountainside, Lost and wandering further from the fold. The craggy rocks and towering spires, The mist and fog, the winter cold. The storm blew in from the billowing sea, The blizzard covered the track behind. The path was hidden by the sleet and rain, The mem’ry numbed of the Shepherd so kind. A few more steps and perchance a cave, A place where warmth and rest is found. Alas, no refuge, no cave, no hole, But ravaging winds the only sound.Reading: Luke 15:4-7

About the Book

About the Author
David Peckham was born and raised in Hastings, England and educated at Moorlands Bible College in Dawlish, Devon. He spent the following years engaged in evangelistic ministry in England and the Faroe Islands. He has three grown children and
currently lives with his wife Katie in the State of Washington. He is retired after thirty years in the insurance business and since April, 2000 has produced a weekly internet devotional called Thoughts From The Word (TFTW) that is received
