Zak Bishop’s and Kizzie Carpenter’s hearts were connected by Fate, long before either of them were even eggs in their mothers’ wombs.

     He was the only child in a family broken apart by love of alcohol. The beast took root in his mother’s life when she was still in her teens; its clingy tentacles thirsting for nourishment and never satisfied.  His father left them when he was eight. A lonely Zak was left to grow up defining for himself his own brand of manhood. He soon discovers a world of warmth and love in a real family, who adopts him as one of their own…the Carpenters. That’s when he met Kizzie. At the age of eight, he fell in love.

Kizzie had been the beloved baby girl of Mr. Dallas and Miss Lizzie Carpenter.

     She had grown up smothered in the security of her family’s love and the goodness of small town friends. When she was six, Zak Bishop stormed his way into her life and her heart. Even at that young age Kizzie knew, the day she first saw him, something about her life had changed forever. For the next ten years, they were inseparable.

Then tragedy strikes, shattering more than two young lives. It affects all of Smithville. Because of it Zak and Kizzie unintentionally go their separate ways. Misunderstandings, fear and lack of faith keep them apart, robbing them of years of love and friendship. 

Now Kizzie has reluctantly come home for a celebration in her honor. This time, Zak is also home. Love is given a chance to be the balm they need to heal the scars of old hurts and pain. Will they take it/?  Will they finally accept that there is no anecdote for a love potion prescribed by Fate? This love their hearts and souls share is a rare and precious gift that no man or woman or circumstance can put asunder. Will Zak and Kizzie let love have its way?

About the Author

Bre Smith was the eleventh of thirteen siblings born to sharecropper parents. Hers was not unlike any number of other working class families of the 1950s. Absent the presence of TV, daily newspapers or even a local library, the large family of natural storytellers relied on their wit, humor and imagination as their greatest source of entertainment. As a child Bre admired the free-flow, uncomplicated way they could weave ordinary life events into wonderful stories. But it would be years later that she would come to recognize the value of those family gatherings on the front porch and to appreciate the impact those early memories had on her love of reading and the written word.

            Her appreciation for the power of words grew, along with her talent for writing, during the twenty years she spent in various assignments in the communications industry. With self determination, the guidance of caring mentors and God’s blessings, she used her creative talent to develop a successful career writing for corporate business executives.

            In 2007 Bre had reached a crossroad. The stress of ever changing uncertainties in the business environment and great personal challenges weighed heavily on her emotional and physical well being. Looking for self inspiration and motivation she took the advice of friends and associates who encouraged her to put her talent to work to weave her own story. Let Love Have Its Way is the result of her commitment to rejuvenate her life and in the process, realize her dream to become an author. This is her first published work.

            Bre lives and works in Jacksonville, Florida.
