KNOW HOPE

            With my head on someone else’s silk sheets, I attempted to masturbate for peace.  But alas, even that had been taken from me. 

            Frustrated, I was left to reminisce about my dream from earlier, wishing for the chance to return to my bar—my universe. 

            It was just after I had drifted away from this cruel world, that the cries of the telephone brought me back.  Dazed and disoriented, I stumbled towards the noise, but it was only after I had the receiver in hand, that I finally realized where I was, and what I was doing.  Luckily I simply put it to my ear and remained silent.

            “Hello,” whimpered an unsure woman, “hello?” The phone went silent, and only a few faint sobs of Alex crying lingered.  The phone’s heart stopped and I was left with the straight-line drone of the dial tone. 

            Alex, my poor Alex, I have no sympathy for the one I still love.

            How could anyone’s memory be able to forget what you said—why couldn’t my heart.  She questioned my very soul.  How could her touch have been so cold?  But still, I don’t blame her.  No one could simply continue in such a situation.

              I couldn't.
