... Then a nice lady named Carol came in to see me. She said she was a nurse prak-tish-un-err. (My mommy says big words are easier to say if you say little pieces at a time.)
Ms. Carol said the next time I came I could call her Aunt Carol, so I'm gonna do it while I tell this story. Anyways, she asked me some really easy questions, & then we played the "silly face" game. She looked at my cut & told me I had big, pretty eyes.
She looked for donuts in my ears with a special tool. She showed me that it was just a tiny flashlight, & it made a shadow on her hand that looked like a donut. We pretended to eat imaginary donuts together as we laughed...

About the Book
Maddie is an energetic three year-old girl surrounded by brothers & "boy cousins". In this book, Maddie recounts a story of one of her many adventures (in her own, unique & princess way)! After a minor injury, she is taken to a nurse practitioner for medical care. Maddie & her mommy learn many new things during her visit, make some new friends & are soon off for a tasty treat because Maddie was such a good patient!
Maddie Goes to the Nurse Practitioner is patterned after the author's niece, a girly-girl in the midst of boys. This mix in a large, tight-knit family makes for some humorous tales & lots of memories for several generations! It is intended to be an entertaining children's book as well as an educational tool for the public who may not clearly understand the practice of nurse practitioners.
About the Author
Cindy Middleton Gray is a family nurse practitioner & mother of five sons. She resides in north Louisiana with her husband, Scott & their family. Gray became a family nurse practitioner in 2000, & since then has gained a great deal of experience with patients of all ages, particularly the pediatric population.
Gray feels that children should be nurtured, especially when ill. Demystifying the medical environment & procedures through play is an important skill for a medical professional in order to gain the trust & cooperation of children. It is only recently that the author rediscovered an old love.... writing. Through this, she hopes to minister to those in need of laughter & to those who miss the age-old tradition of storytelling.
Besides the gifts of her own sons & a host of neices & nephews, the author is grateful for the opportunity to care for children with a variety of medical issues.
