Sherlock’s hackles rose. Something had moved over by the shed. It was the same as last night, only this time, he got a glimpse of something else, something he’d never seen before. An ethereal glow floated in the darkness like a ghostly apparition and then vanished into the night in the blink of his eye. Something was out there; he was sure of it! It was not his imagination. There it was again! He thought of waking Elf but decided against it. She didn’t need to be scared for a second time today. So he sat still, his round yellow eyes, grown to the size of saucers, fixed on the exact spot where the shadows seemed to move. Then he saw it. The creature dashed from under a juniper shrub and disappeared into the thicket behind the shed. Sherlock continued to sit motionless. The pupils of his eyes, expanded wide to absorb every bit of light peered through the window into the dark. He focused on the thicket. What was it he saw? It was not a cat or a dog. He had never seen anything like it and although his heart was racing, he was more curious than afraid. And that was the moment he thought of the plan. He jumped off the kitchen counter, walked into the den and jumped onto the sofa. Time to get some sleep---if things went the way he hoped, tomorrow was going to be a very busy day. Back by the shed, the creature knew it had been spotted by the cat in the window whose eyes had glowed out in the darkness and signaled his presence. The beast hoped the shadows had provided enough cover to mask its identity. The plan did not include being discovered and now it would have to make sure the witness was silenced.

Sherlock, a young and precocious tabby cat, lives a privileged and comfortable lifestyle indoors with his unique sister, Elf.He should be content, but instead, day by day, he is becoming more and more curious about life on the other side of the windows.He is consumed with a feeling of restlessness that he cannot understand. Owner has gone on a three day vacation and Sherlock is in charge of the house. Full of adolescent bravado, it doesn’t take him long to get into trouble…….trouble that nearly ends one of his lives. It is only due to Elf’s chance discovery that he is saved. And it is through that discovery that Sherlock tricks Elf into opening the door to the outside. Outside where, from the kitchen window, he’d seen mysterious dark shadows stir and then disappear into the thicket behind the old shed. Unbeknownst to the two naive insiders, evil is making its way into the neighborhood with Elf as its target.

Ro Brisebois was born in Lindsay Ontario in 1952 shortly after her parents emigrated from post World War II
With over 30 years in the financial services sector Ro now operates a successful risk and compliance consulting business. She has travelled extensively, has two grown sons, and lives with her two cats, Sherlock and Elf.
