About the Book
The adventures of Floret, is a collection of short stories about a young woodland fairy. Floret is the Fairy Queen’s daughter and her love of the woodland folk (foxes, squirrels badgers and the like) leads her on to have many lovely adventures. During these adventures Floret's helpfulness and kindness from both her and the woodland folk complete the stories with happy endings. The stories are aimed at the younger children - age range of 3 - 7yrs and have tried to give a kind, giving and helpful moral understanding to the readers. The setting is in an English forest and the stories are written with a graphic flare which should help children envisage the setting (even if they have not seen an English forest before) and feel the magic of a forest in the summer.
About the Author
My name is Betsy Kerwin, I was born in Portslade near Brighton Sussex, England. My family only stayed a short time in Sussex, we went to live with Grandmother near Sherwood Forest Nottingham. Often Mother would take me for long walks along the Rhododendron lined paths in the forest. As a child I grew up in the beautiful English countryside, gathering Bluebells in spring and now and again hearing the plaintive call of a cuckoo. In the Autumn I loved searching among the fallen leaves for chestnuts and watching the red squirrels running up the trees with their nuts to put away for the winter hibernation. I loved the English countryside but the cold winters and long dark nights made me long for a warmer climate. I married and had two children, a daughter and a son but still longed for a warmer place, as did my family. We as a family emigrated to Rhodesia (now Zimbabwe ) Africa in 1974. The wonderful warm climate and slow pace of life was great and we soon fell in love with Africa. My husband passed away - I had to seriously look at my options and do something about my life, I moved to South Africa where I rented a cottage and sat down to think? My daughter often phoned and one day she asked me if I had ever written down those stories about fairies and frogs etc? I used to tell her for her bedtime stories. They were still fresh in my mind so I have written them down to share with my grandchildren and all the other children who I hope will find them as enchanting as my own did. The wonderful illustrations have been drawn by Roy Brooks, who is a very talented artist based in South Africa.
