About the Book

The blood stones are real. Gib Larkin believes so and he’s about to travel into the remote forest of Minnesota’s Boundary Waters Canoe Area to find the legendary stones. Driven by his passionate belief and unwavering conviction, Gib is joined by Josh Bertram, a recent college graduate who is enjoying one last summer of fun before heading into the mundane world of adulthood. Addison Gethold, a young woman experienced in guiding the vast wilderness, leads them through the connecting rivers and lakes on their journey, but she harbors a secret resentment for their objective. The three travelers are linked by their distant ancestor, Gerald Kearny, the author of the book that will show them the way.  

Isolation forces them, sometimes painfully, into a better understanding of one another and of themselves. It also leaves them vulnerable to nature’s many dangerous obstacles. Gib leads them to the fabled “beaten path” that will take them to the stones, but the group is found as well by the malevolent Temple Marston and his men. Oblivious to this ruthless man and his murderous intentions, Gib and his friends successfully navigate the subtle clues left by their great uncle until they find themselves on the rocky shores of Lake Superior where their determination to find the stones may cost them their lives.

Blood Stones takes the reader to a place where solitude is timeless, the forest is untamed, and the only obligations that matter are those that we have to each other. Traveling the endless waterways long used by Native Americans and the fur trading Voyagers, this story is sure to satisfy any outdoor enthusiast’s love of exploration and adventure.
