In the Greater Scheme of Things… is an affirmation of the grand or cosmic order and the interconnectedness of all life. It’s so easy to get caught up in the day-to-day details of earning a living and to miss the ‘bigger picture’ of the fantastic miracle we call life. We often miss the forest for the trees. If we aim at mere survival, we become pessimists; should we expand our vision beyond our micro-concerns, we become dreamers; but should we integrate those visions with our daily life, we become whole and successful as human beings. This book is a celebration of the new renaissance of the human spirit in a time when science, technology, and insights as ancient as mankind are beginning to merge on a common ground or “transcendental territory”—a meeting point of science and metaphysics.
By opening our awareness to nature’s deepest functioning within ourselves we discover that synchronistic events unfold in our lives. We discover that nothing in nature is random. There is a divine order in the greater scheme of things; “the dice of God are always loaded.”

In the greater scheme of things, I affirm a ‘living, breathing’ universe that transcends our current notions of a material world made up of ‘dead’ matter. Plato described the universe as “one whole of wholes” and “a single living creature that encompasses all of the living creatures that are within it.”

About the Book
In the Greater Scheme of Things… A philosophical & inspirational view of some of the ultimate questions regarding human existence and the nature of the universe. A majority of the book takes an aphoristic approach in presenting life’s deeper questions of existence and the views of some of the best minds on the subject. Its underlying premise is that the answers to the larger questions of existence transcend materialistic rationalism’s “linear thinking” and are best approached in the non-linearity of myth and poetry as was originally formulated at the roots of our western civilization and that these insights arose from a “wise silence” that lies at the roots of our being.
About the Author
J. Carlos Aguirre has studied ancient cultures and traveled worldwide in pursuit of life’s deeper questions of the “whence, whither and why” of the human condition. A philosopher-at-large with an undergraduate degree in philosophy and a M.A. in psychology, he also became a teacher of the Transcendental Meditation technique while studying and living in Switzerland for a year. As an entrepreneur he has built and sold several businesses and has weathered the challenges and triumphs of the entrepreneurial experience. His passions include worldwide travel, flying as a private pilot, reading, and astronomy.
