About the Book

Gourmet Your Way is a culmination of multi-cultural recipes from Thomas Benzenhafer and Lance Dean, pulled from both family recipes and over 50 years of combined restaurant experience and travel.

We have designed our book in such a way that we present you the principle ideas for many different recipes and techniques and try to teach and encourage you to make these recipes your own. We believe in playing with the traditional dishes as well as thinking outside of the box. Every recipe has our personal touches, anecdotes and stories, as well as a "Cook - To - Cook" comment from each other about the recipes. Cooking should be about love, having fun and most of all “Cooking should be about making it your own.”


About the Author

With nearly 50 years of combined culinary experience, childhood friends Lance Dean and Thomas Benzenhafer were reunited by chance after nearly twenty years.  Both had grown up with strong culinary influences in their families and both had spent most of their careers in restaurants and kitchens. Thomas’ strong German background meant that in his family, if you wanted to eat, you had to help in the kitchen; while Lance’s father spent a lot of his time in the kitchen while they were stationed in Alaska, making gourmet dishes that inspired many years of culinary exploration. 

                Currently, they work for Le Creuset, where they get to share their many years of restaurant experience and travel with their clients on a daily basis; teaching and instructing them on cooking ideas, techniques and recipes. While Lance enjoys the Southwestern flavors and cooking with chipotle, he loves the Asian and Polynesian cuisine that he found while living in Hawaii. Thomas’ traditional German cooking is complemented by his Middle-Eastern curries and savory dishes. Together, they offer their love for all things food along with the philosophy that cooking should be an adventure in culinary discovery.
