Happy Ever After
What happend to the princess from a faraway land,
Her beautiful face cupped in my hands?
To swim the pool within her eyes,
Knowing her heart will never be mine.
A golden stallion rides into the distance,
Twilighting sunset provides silhouette.
Fairytale end between two people,
Marriage eternal, a shining example.
Goodness flows like a waterfall,
Moralities secrets a chorus at dawn.
Respect abundant like swaying wheat,
Fields where good over evil defeats.
Personal victory cannot be achieved,
Hidden trojan horse conceived,
How can you win against the odds,
David and Goliath biblical one off.
The happy ending is only a fable,
For story books and old wives tales,
My ending is not one of a prince,
No horseback ride at sunset since,
Death by rogue intruding disease,
Has caused my fairytale life to cease.

About the Book
Over the years different impressions have been made by different aspects of life. Verse is a very good way to communicate feelings that cannot be otherwise portrayed as in, say, a biography or diary. `Common Verse` represents accounts of everyday life; working class attitudes of relationships with each other; despair, hope, family, religion and historical and topical themes.Written from a backdrop of west midlands heavy industry and life coping with the arrival of the twenty-first century, it is a short insight into a mind coming to terms with a terminal illness; and maybe a view from the slideshow beyond.
About the Author
`Common Verse` was written over a ten year period; feelings jotted down after toiling various shifts in the west midlands steel industry, lorry driving around the country or just reflections following a bottle of wine! Armed with my GCSE english and the experience of a wife, two daughters, mortgage and all that entails, I have tried to portray both sides of despair and hope; humility and respect. In 2006 I received a diagnosis of a terminal cancer, and hope this book can be a fitting legacy for an ordinary man trying to cope juggling the pins of life in the twenty first century.
