Additionally, researchers of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology of the New York University School of Medicine determined that Black women have shorter cervices than women of other races; thus:
A short cervix may provide a less effective barrier to
ascending genital tract infections. This observation may
contribute to the far higher risk for infection-associated
preterm membrane rupture and preterm labor with intact
membranes among African-American women.

About the Book
Cori’s Calling: Sistahs, Get Screened & Save Your Seed! is the first of a series of books designed to give my daughter’s life purpose by addressing certain issues in the medical community that need changing, and also personal matters that pregnant women contend with, which I learned prior to, during, and subsequent to the loss of my baby. This particular volume was created to bring awareness to women who are pregnant or planning to become pregnant of the essentiality in obtaining screening for bacterial vaginosis and incompetent cervix prior to or in early pregnancy.
About the Author
CASSAUNDRA MICHELÉ is an aspiring writer and her published works include features in CityFlight Magazine and Gumbo For the Soul. A class of 1989 graduate from North Brunswick Township High School in New Jersey, she has worked in the legal field for 20 years and is currently President and CEO of The Cori’s Calling Foundation. Although a “Joy-Z Girl” at heart, she presently resides with her daughter, Ryan Taylor in the bay area of San Francisco, California.
