About the Book
This book is all about the writer’s almost accidental experiences as an independent ‘insider’ living in a range of African communities while developing some strong friendships. Each chapter brings surprises as she survives perils, challenges and some unique events in her determination to make a difference to people’s lives at the grass roots while also seeking her own happiness.
The book is also historically and sociologically interesting as an account of life in the South African townships, tribal valleys and around East Africa.
This story is definitely a testimony to how life can be exciting and enriching when you travel independently with the belief in ‘daring, caring and sharing’, wherever you are.
About the Author
Margaret Sheldon may seem like ‘just another English woman’ but she preferred to consider herself as a global citizen. She gained several university degrees and had a varied career in teaching while also bringing up her children alone but she always aspired to travel around the world learning about other cultures and languages.
Africa was a compelling attraction for her so after taking early retirement she could fulfil her nomadic inclination travelling extensively in Southern and East Africa and making a contribution as a volunteer.
Then she faced a dilemma when she fell in love on a visit to a tribal village…. should she follow her head or her heart? Her writing flows naturally as she relates her experiences and emotions in the unique story that unfolds.
