I went to the hospital, and located my brother's room. When I walked into the room, there was my brother lying still, frail, and weak I could barely recogonize him. He looked nothing like my brother Eugene I once knew. My sister Debbie was there in the room, I could see the sorrow and pain in her face. She took me to the side and said that she was informed by the nurse on duty that our brother may not make it through the night. This is such a painful moment to remember, just writing this brings pain and sorrow to my heart. I turned my attention back to my brother, we made eye contact. he tried to speak but he was so weak I could barely hear what he was trying to say. I just wanted to hold him, and tell him how much I missed him. Not just him but I missed our whole life together. I felt like Eugene was cheated and didn't deserve this fate, I was the one ear marked for such a tragic life. I went over and sat on the side of the bed, looked into his eyes with a half smile, and said " you were always stronger and smarter than me. I told him that I always looked up to him. I was holding his soft frail, thin hand feeling humble and helpless. All I could do was stare into his sad and distant eyes. He tried to force a smile, while he sqeezed my hand. I tried to to be strong, but the pain was too much to bare, I began crying hysterically. My head fell on to his chest, clutching his arms as I lay gently across his body, shaking and crying. In that moment I could feel all the reality in this tragic moment, as the waves of pain surged through my heart. My brother is dying and I was totally helpless, and over whelmed with sadness. Eugene then mustered up all the strength he could and in a soft low voice he said get me some ice. Man that was the moment, God allowed that pain to be mine and mine alone.

About the Author
Hi my name is Benjamin Johnson, my family, and friends call me Talib, which means 'seeker of knowledge.' I was born in the Bronx New York, and owe the depth of my Spirituality to the depth in which my life sank during my years of active addiction. By the end of my self destructive run, I was homeless, jobless, and hopeless. After 20 years in recovery from drugs and alcohol. My life is a living testimony to just how great, loving and merciful God is. I sought out the wisdom of the Spirit, and he granted me grace in about every turn of my life. I have had no prior training or educational background just the grace and mercy of God to help accomplish all that I have over the years. I am an open minded individual, with a passionate will to help others. I am not a traditionally religious man, but have a close personal relationship with God. Over the years I have worked with drug addicts, troubled youth, and convicts to rebuild their lives.My continued success relies on my faith and obedience. I am currently working on my second book which chronicles the rise from the ashes of a self destructive journey and a crumbled life.
