About the Author

Gail Cohen was born in New York City during the Chinese Year of the Horse. She attended schools in New York and Miami, FL, earning undergraduate and graduate degrees in liberal arts, sociology, anthropology and design from Miami-Dade Community College (FL), College of DuPage (IL), Florida International University and the University of Georgia. Cohen began her marketing career in the giftware/collectibles industry in 1980 while moonlighting as a feature writer and stringer for consumer and trade publications. She covered local news for The Daily Herald, Illinois’ third largest newspaper, has scripted and produced videos, written scripts for multi-media software developers and authored Chicago-area TV commercials. In 1993, Roman, Inc. published Cohen’s first children’s book, Once Upon an Ark. She wrote or co-wrote 11 books published by Publications International of Lincolnwood (IL). Her works of humor, non-fiction, book reviews and poetry have appeared in The Chicago Tribune, Northshore magazine, Library Journal and other media. Cohen revolutionized the Judaica market by conceiving Menorables™, contemporary Chanukah menorahs for kids. One of her designs was featured on CNN-TV’s Worldwide News. Sold by leading retail and online outlets throughout the U.S., the Menorables collection expanded to 17 designs in 2007. In 1993, Cohen returned to education as an adjunct professor teaching advertising, copywriting, public relations, communications, magazine writing, journalism, editing, technical writing and feature writing at Harper Community College (Palatine, IL) and National-Louis University. Cohen authored two weekly columns for the Daily Herald from 1995 to 2001 and weekly personality profiles for a targeted edition of the Herald until the end of 2003. Cohen has two children and five grandchildren. Currently residing in Wood Dale, Illinois with cats Dreamsicle and Sunkist, she dreams of retiring (with her Mac) to a breezy condo on the beach in Uruguay, assuming she can get an Internet connection there.
