About the Book

Copper Mountain College's own Cheyenne Bonnell,PHD give's her review of the book as SCARED IN A HOUSE CALLED LOVE, Rose Whittington's touching memoir of her journey from chilhood to maturity, is a remarkable book in several ways. First, it is remarkable that Rose survived her childhood and became the loving, caring, energetic, and determined person that I know her to be today. Her story is remarkable, also, in the way that it is told. Rose allows the story to unfurl from the child's perspective. Readers experience her childhood the way that Rose did herself. The neglect and abuse Rose suffers is just a part of the world in which she is growing up, and because she writes her narrative from that naive and innocent perspective, readers can experience the horror of her childhood. Rose, an open-hearted and ever hopeful child, distinctively protects the abusive adults on whom she depends; their sordid and immoral lives become so normative, so seeminglly normal to her, that it becomes almost impossible for her not to become just like them. And even so, raised in a climate of low self-esteem, an atmosphere saturated with sex, drugs, violence, spousal abuse, lying, infidelity, and thievery, Rose's true and caring nature triumphs. Although she was scared in a house called love, she hopes to prevent it from happening to others by remembering the pain that she felt and telling her story so that others will not have to live through her pain.

About the Author

There's a new author in the house!

My name is Rose Whittington.  I was born in Los Angeles. I'm the first African American woman who was on T.V. in East Los Angeles celebrating Cinco de Mayo(a traditional, mexican holiday celebrated may 5th each year) by dancing a  Mexican folk dance called ballet folklorico. In the 70's I won the all American award from the  President of the United States of America. This athletic award was given for my excellence in track and field for, broad jumping, relay racing, and the 100 yard dash.I not only treasure this award but the trophies and gold medals are a daily reminder of my success. When I went to live on my own, I had done some professional dancing in the United States, and in Japan. I've also done some runway modeling for a Hawaiian televsion show.

Growing up I thought math, reading, and writing, was a waste of time. I thought drinking, drugs, and using profanity was cool.  Now that I am 50 years old, profanity, and drugs, are no longer a part of my life.

The year is 2009, and now that I have acomplished my education, and recieved my certifications in Early Childhood Education as director and teacher, I have regained my self esteem, lost in childhood. I'm married to a wonderful man, and have three loving children.

I love riding horses, singing, and learning new things.

on March 16, 2009 I won the honors award from Who's Who. Life is hard but with the right help we can, and will make it, I know this because my life was hard, and look at me now, life is good. We must, and we will, work together, and with God's help, I think we can make it.
