Unconventional Me
You won’t find me in
The same old place,
Doing the same old things
With the same old folks.
I’m not feelin’ the bars,
The clubs, no room
For online love.
Give me contemporary art,
The symphony, midnight
Walks on the beach,
Solo of course. I’m
Into me time, meaning
Without you.
Give me my tenor sax
And some cognac.
The first lady of song,
With a full moon shining,
or a crackling fire.
I like to walk around free,
And rediscover me.
Learn my ins and outs,
And what I’m all about.
Layin’ in the tub, showing myself
Some love.
Moanin’ and
groanin’, and
I do it all alone,
and
For the first time
In my life,
I’m okay with
loving me.
Unconditionally.
Unconventionally.

About the Author
Uriah Bell is a native of Detroit who has been a silent force in gay rights, and HIV support and peer counseling. Uriah has worked with multiple not-for-profits in our continuous fight for a cure. Uriah's writing has been recognized in multiple magazines and publications.
Mood Swings is Uriah's first collection of poems, none of which have been previously published, as he takes us on an intimate journey into his past.
Uriah currently resides in Boston, MA.
