The time to move Kandi back home had finally arrived, and I was working my ass off getting the moving truck packed up all by myself. Even then, things were still shaky and unstable between us, and even though she was moving back home, that was for the new job my best friend had gotten her. Kandi and I at that time had no intention of splitting up. This was hopefully just a quick fix until I could get transferred back home and complete the remainder of my military obligation. A lot of tension was in the air. Kandi and I were casting verbal stones back and forth at one another.
Then all of a sudden, BAM! I got blindsided. I’m sure you didn’t expect that, because I didn’t. Here I was loading the moving truck, and all I could hear was Kandi’s voice getting louder and louder screaming at me once again as usual, about what? Hell, I didn’t know, I was trying to get finished loading the damn truck.
Then from out of nowhere I got sucker punched straight in the jaw by Kandi, as if I were in a boxing match. The punch was hard enough to knock my already fragile jaw out of line. I had a weak jaw and chin from several injuries I had suffered during my high school and collegiate football career. And yes, you did hear me right, my wife had just stolen on me. That’s an old saying from the hood.
Without even thinking about what I was doing, my reflexes popped her right back.
I told her, “This is not the movies, and I hit you back.”
One thing I was taught growing up by my parents was to never hit a woman. My take on things is, “If a woman puts herself in a man’s place, she better be ready to suffer a man’s consequences.” Simply put, you don’t touch me, and I won’t touch you. Understand?
Kandi stood there in shock for a moment, not believing that I had actually hit her back, because I had let her get away with so much for so long. I guess this time she realized she had crossed the line. She began to cry. I comforted her. Then straight from her mouth, she asked, why did I hit her?
I said, “Because you hit me.”
She swore she hadn’t, but my out-of-place-for-the-next-two-weeks-or-so jaw said differently. That scared the living Hell out of me. Something that had just happened two or three minutes ago, she had no idea it had happened. That confirmed to me even more that I was dealing with some Demonic Spirit within her.
