PROJECT LIVING
Let me take you back to the Projects in the summer. See, me and my cousins spent everyday, all day on the green box watching the drug dealers shoot dice.
In the Projects, you got your "CHICKEN HEADS".... these are the females who have the drug dealer, so - called boyfriend, about five kids, on welfare, house dirty as hell, kids dusty eating quarter bags of chips dinner, looking like they have no mother at all. Yet, this chick always got a fresh weave or braids up in her hair, wearing the lastest designer, the new sneaker and driving the hottest car with T- tags.
Around the corner lives the "SNEAKER HOG"......she's between 16 - 19, not yet 21, mind still young. She's the one you hide your drugs on, when you can't find nobody to hump on, you call her. She rides the bus, cause you won't buy her a car. As long as you take her dumb ass to "FOOTLOCKER" she'll do whatever you say!
At night you can watch the Projects light up like the New York skyline from the junkies getting high. The local swimming pool is more like a public bath tub, for the peole who walk around with the same clothes on, they don't have time to wash they ass when they getting high. You can't hang your clothes outside on the line, cause within a blink of an eye your shit is gone.
The Projects...where you can go to the "CANDY LADY" house when you get a sweet tooth. To another for your Newports or Philly Blunts. Go a few doors down for a dinner, Chicken Platter or Fish. Sit up in the young girl's kitchen and get your hair done, cross the street and get up with that girl who had the whole mall in her bedroom, selling that shit to support her drug habit, thinking people didn't know.
Don't get me wrong, living in the Projects was hard, but fun as hell! Always something going on, watching them go in and out of jail. Getting all the news before channel 3, 6, 10, 12 and 2 shit, we always had something to do.
This is the place I was born, where once in my life I called home. Nothing left but a fence and some bricks.....
Memories I'll hold tight and never ever forget.......

About the Book
The Spoken Truth is a tell all book. It speaks on family issues, living in the Projects or low income housing, dealing with cheating men, drug dealers and the young girls who support them. It is truly the day and life of living in the hood all put in Spoken word and short stories. If you are from the hood, it will hit home. Some where down the line, you will say, that sounds just like...so and so or this is what I'm dealing with now in my own life. It is for all races, for now days all races live in the hood. The Spoken Truth will make you laugh, cry, take you back to your childhood and those good ole days.
About the Author
Reared on the Southside of Wilmington, Delaware, this 32 yr old, black single mother writes about the truth. Not afraid to speak up and out on problems in the black community, she puts it all in Spoken word and tells all. She has written since the age of 12, as well as singing and dance. Who say's being from the Projects is a dead end, that you'll never achieve anything. They were too wrong. I make my own decisions and it is up to me to walk down the right path. I wrote this book for the people I knew in my life, I still know and those that I've come across in passing. I believe there is always a story to be told, and the main characters are " LIFE". Just watch and listen to those around you everyday. I think that's what makes an inspired writer, in books, movies, plays and so on. Some people hate to see others achieve anything, they just can't be happy for you, because they are not happy in there own lives. With that, I pray and keep on keeping on. In all, I am a woman with many talents and you haven't heard the last of me yet. I no longer live in the Projects, they were torn down. I will live where I was born, raise my child with good family values and always write from my heart and speak the "Spoken Truth".
