A FRIEND INDEED
You’ve taught me what a true friend was
We’ve dong things for each other just because
Even when you upset me, I loved you still
I suppose, no matter what, I always will
I hope we’ll be close ‘til we’re old and gray
I hope we talk to each other almost every day
I’ve had friends before but never one like you
Anything I want to do, you’re down for it too
Remember how we met, our men were friends too
I hope that the men we marry become just as cool
I hope, if we have children, they’ll be friends for life
I hope they love and respect each other like you and I
It’s good to have a friend when you find yourself in need
I’m so glad that you are such a wonderful friend to me
NEW CARS DON’T BELONG IN THE PROJECTS
I woke up to a bright light shining into my bedroom
Visions of tow trucks ran through my head
See I’ve dealt with the repo man
Only this time my bill was on time
I jumped on the bed and yelled out the window, “Hey, get your hands off my ride”
“It looks like it never moves so we were checking it out”
“But I drive it everyday; when I come home I rarely come back out”
So now I’m up at midnight ranting and raving because I think the Po-Pos are trying to
take my car
They know my car is new so they’re trying to figure out what it’s doing in “these” apartments
So I put on my pajama bottoms and laid my hair down
Then I ran down the stairs to straighten these clowns
I didn’t knock on the window because police shoot and ask questions later
I just stood there until they noticed me standing there
“Were y’all the ones looking at my car that I talked to from my room?”
“Yeah, we’ve never saw that car move”
“I leave here every morning at 4:30 am and return at 5:30 pm; I don’t hang out like these fools”
“Okay, but we were wondering if the car was stolen because we discovered one last week”
“No, I just got that car in the last couple of weeks”
“We heard a noise when you looked out the window, did you hit the wall?”
“My bed’s in front of the window and I was standing on it, I thought it was a crook I wasn’t sure it was y’all”
“We see why you got your car parked right there”
“Yeah, so I can look out and see if someone’s messing with it, making me pull out my hair”
So, then I walked away feeling better…but only for a minute
Now they know my schedule, what if they come into my apartment just to see what’s in it?

About the Book
If you are a fan of Russell Simmons’ Def Poetry, I think you’ll love this book of poetry. This collection was written over the last sixteen years of my life. I’ve covered different aspects of my life from losing my mother, to dating the wrong type of guys, to having my first child.
About the Author
When people think of Memphis they think of Elvis and Graceland or Martin Luther King and Lorraine Motel. Not to down play the importance of these very memorable people in our history, but I want to be one of the people that's thought of when people hear the name of my home town.
I was born and raised in Memphis, TN. The first 14 years of my life, I lived with my mom, great-grandmother and two younger brothers. I moved in with my father, two of my older sisters, my dad's girlfriend and her two children a few months before I turned 15.
I took an interest in reading at a very young age and had decided that I would write a book of my own by the time I was in the fifth grade (Even at the tender age of eleven I knew I wanted to be a writer). I wrote my first poem when I was in the eighth grade and have been writing them ever since.
My writings consist of poetry, short stories and novels. The subject matters range from family, jobs and sex. Sometimes I write sweet, sometimes naughty and other times humorous.
My biggest inspiration is my son, Donovan. Without him, I would not have built up the courage to pursue writing professionally.
You know that I’m a Pisces
Which means I’m kinda feisty
Having had my little baby
Has helped me keep my sanity.
