With Wings We Dream

Nonnie pulled her rocking chair up between the two beds, sat down and began rocking slowly as she started to tell them a story in a low and steady voice.

One evening when the moon was full and there were only a few bright stars scattered throughout the night sky, two little boys lay in their beds trying to go to sleep.  They tossed and turned, wiggled and squirmed, until they finally began to drift off.

She continued her story as the boys squeezed their eyes shut tight and then slowly relaxed as they fell into a deep sleep. 

As they lay as still as could be, the boys began to sprout the most beautiful white feathery wings on their backs.  The wings began to move up and down gracefully as does a beautiful bird’s wings.  Slowly at first, then the wings began to move faster.  The boys were gently lifted off their beds and flew up in the air as the full pair of wings fluttered back and forth.  Blayne and Mason looked at each other in amazement as they were suspended above their beds.  It was like the boys were floating on a cloud ever so softly.
