8. Head-Games:
Up to this point, we have tried to paint an image of the creator and his creations. We have introduced the battle of Good and Evil, and explained how it spread to man. We hope you also have a better understanding of God, and his relationship to man. You can begin to see the complexity of the heart of man, and the thought-life of man. But, your head still stirs with stuff. Conflicting stuff! Relief seems easier than recovery.
God understands. The enemy has been attacking man since the fall. It could be you asking God …
How long must I wrestle with my thoughts and every day have sorrow in my heart? How long will my enemy triumph over me? Psalms 13: 2
You see. Your situation is not new to God. God has been helping people recover for thousands of years. God understands how the Pit Bulls wrestle you down in your thought-life.
When you are not high, then you become depressed. The drugs have alienated many of your friends and much of your family. Feelings of insecurity and depression invade your thought-life. The lows begin to sink much deeper, and the highs seem farther away. The Pit Bulls chase off any contentment and you sink farther into a lonely depressed space. The Pit Bulls drag up rejection, guilt, and misery, and sling it in your face. Reality keeps pulling you down, and it is time to escape. Now!
The drugs stole your patience a long time ago. Drugs and patience just do not mix. Your head is in fast-forward to the next time. Chasing the high is a way of life. The next time, is never as good, as the last time. But you are still thinking, about the first time. Your ability to focus on the course may be a factor. Focusing is dependent on the number of days you have clean. How can you focus with all this stuff in your head?
But you need to know… we know… drug users are not stupid. Bad choices does not equal dumb. Deception does not equal dumb. Satan wants your head filled with defeat. God created you. He knows better. God wants your heart filled with victory.
