Have you ever taken a journey?

Which lasted for years?

And through all your years

All you had were your fears

In that journey would you take your life?

Maybe you wouldn’t have to

Cause you might be killed in the night

Before the journey you were taken from your bed

Scared for your life so you did what they said

You were draped with metals from head to toe

Praying to your God that you would be let go

You were taken from everything you knew

Beaten until your body was black and blue

Never to see your loved ones again

If you could look into your future you would see nothing but suffering

Never understanding what took place

Stripped of your potential, what a waste

I often try to imagine what was going through your head

Never looking too deep because I was scared

Sometimes I can hear the ghost of the sea

I feel my ancestors reaching out to me

Screaming out “Never forget from whence you came”

Keep your head up and endure the pain
