About the Book

Memorizing an Italian poem and then reciting that poem is not the same as being fluent in the Italian language. In a similar manner, memorizing an individual piece of music and then ‘reciting’ that piece of music is not the same as being fluent in the musical language. Listen to any of the world’s musical recordings; look at any of the world’s written musical compositions. Underlying those many, tangled, individual notes – waiting to be discovered – are actually larger, more intuitive patterns that effectively make up the true musical language. It is the comprehension and absorption of these larger patterns – the shapes within the shapes – that most readily catapults one into a state of musical fluency and/or virtuosity. The enclosed teaching method provides to the world the mathematically most-efficient means of acquiring a circularly complete fluency in our inherited musical language. This is the equivalent of a painter suddenly gaining access to the complete spectrum of the rainbow. Mastering the performance of these very specific shapes, on any instrument, will propel one to new (previously unattainable) heights of musical expertise and enjoyment. While the subsequent ‘deciphering’ of the language is based primarily off of three master patterns—known to much of the world as the ‘scales’—it is important to realize that the true potential of the concept is infinite (as infinite as a circle) and can be used to visualize any musical pattern of the world, without exception. Just as the world of art was forever changed through a circular understanding of color, so, too, will the world of music be forever changed through a circular understanding of music and sound. Musical DNA(R) Software is proud to present the Master Key(R) of Music.

About the Author

Ken Lemons entered the five-university, eight major, thirteen-year program, culminating in his receiving two musical degrees: Bachelors in Piano Performance from Nebraska; and Masters in Music – Piano Pedagogy – from Butler University. (Along the way he also studied engineering at Michigan; anthropology, broadcasting, and oil painting at DePauw; and sociology and theatre-and-sound-design at Purdue.) One of Ken’s favorite heroes was a man named Joseph Campbell – whose work in the field of world mythology continues to inspire a remarkably vast number of artists and leaders in a diverse range of fields and expertise: including George Lucas, Jerry Garcia, Mike Meyers, and many others…. Campbell’s primary message, of the importance of ‘following your bliss,’ has led Ken to explore a great number of the movers-and-shakers of our world: from Jim Henson, to Jacque Cousteau, to Albert Einstein, and many others besides. ‘The path cannot be seen from outside the forest; indeed, one must first have the courage to jump—and only afterwards will the path seem to materialize and the doors open.’ Ken has found this to be true in his own life and is thankful he did not settle into a routine that would have diminished his passion and creativity. He would like to take this opportunity to encourage others to take a risk in their own lives and seek out the adventure that is certainly there waiting for them: as a path that will seem to make itself up as it goes along. He hopes to use Musical DNA(R) and the Master Key(R) as a means of breaking down boundaries and facilitating communication, even on a worldwide scale. (Might as well dream big, right?) We’re all in this together, and music is a universal language after all.
