About the Book
In August of 1995, a tailing pond containing
mining effluent belonging to the Wadpole
Corporation, an Omai mining company, broke.
Several billion liters of cyanide-laced slurry was
emptied into the Essequibo River and its tributaries.
The Omai River became devoid of life. The region
was locked in an ecological holocaust. People died in
droves. Flora and fauna ceased to exist. Guyana was
under the microscopes of international organizations
like WHO, US EPA and Interpol when indigenous
groups sought their help. Then one day, Frank
Wilder, an Interpol agent came to Georgetown. His
mission——find the Omai Files. Little did he know
that his journey to Georgetown would cause him
to cross paths with Alma Rampersaud, an Indo-
Guyanese woman and secretary to the Minister of
Health. The two became molded together by their
demons, their vision and their erotic power over
each other. From Lamaha Gardens to the lavish
estates of Prashad Nagar, they forged a conspiracy
to find the Omai Files and expose a political culture
that flourished in Guyana for decades.
