Essentials for the Believer

Now as a spiritual solder, life is our battlefield, that every day same-old, same-old that our eyes gaze over, that which we rush though it like maniacs, and it is our walk in life that prepares us for both this realm and the next. Our spiritual equipping has five areas:

1.      Indwelling

2.      Filling

3.      Testing

4.      Resisting

5.      Maturing

The Indwelling of the Holy Spirit is the first step of the process.  Indwell: to inhabit or to dwell, to possess, a moral principle or a guiding force, a motivating force, to abide within.  We must first know and receive the spirit of that which we are putting our faith, so then when we receive Jesus Christ as our personal Savior, the Spirit of the Lord Jesus Christ must indwell within us and because Christ abides in us we get a spiritual inheritance. 

Ephesians 1:13-14

¹³In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise,

¹⁴Which is the earnest of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession, unto the praise of his glory, also

1st Peter 1:4

⁴To an inheritance incorruptible, and undefiled, and that fadeth not away, reserved in heaven for you.

Once we are open to receive The Holy Spirit then the next step begins.

The Filling of the Holy Spirit, now that we are a receptacle we must be filled.  It is God’s Spirit that we want to fill us, through His Spirit the whole soul of man (male/female) is governed, our mind, will and emotions flow thorough Him, it is the inward man that is the connecting factor with the Lord.  Let’s look at Romans Chapter 12:1-3 says:

¹I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.

 ²And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.

³For I say, through the grace given unto me, to every man that is among you, not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think; but to think soberly, according as God hath dealt to every man the measure of faith”. 

Again we must be open to receive the instructions through His Spirit, noted in verse 2, and in verse 3 it shows us that it is our stand in our faith, which determines our measure.  Ephesians 5:17-20 shows us how we are to dwell in the Spirit all the day:
