In the 60’s and 70’s, an Assisted Passage by boat was a popular means of emigration for Brits to that exciting frontier fondly termed Down Under. With Australia in mind, Liz and two male companions seeking independence and adventure, set off instead in a car. As twenty-something-year-olds, they were ready to take on the world. But was the world ready for them?

Today, Turkey, Iran and Afghanistan are countries foremost in the news for all the wrong reasons. Thirty-five years ago, the Middle East was a different place but just how different?

Take a trip back in time through her diary, sometimes humorous, often tense and discover how the journey unfolded, especially for a European woman. Even now, she is a woman who is happiest when wandering the world, often solo. After all, says Liz “I am just a vagabond at heart”.
