The year is 2010 A.D.; an archeologist named Joash has just
discovered the remains of an ancient city. He enters the largest
building in the city. There he discovers a number of books. He
pulls one from a shelf and opens it. The writing is in a language
that he has never seen before. He puts the book back. He hears
a voice say, “Akabdule nintoe ke-at brookas.”
Joash is surprised and a little afraid, and he asks, “Is anyone
here?”
The voice replies, “Questing facts hoard. Gratify persist
vernacular.”
Joash noticed that this time, the voice spoke in
English. The words didn’t make much sense, but the last two
could mean that the voice wanted him to continue talking.
Joash asks, “Who are you?”
The voice says, “I believe that I have identified your language.
I am Library Artificial Computing Intelligence 0592. You can
call me L.A.C.I. or Laci if you wish.”
Joash replies, “So you are an automated librarian, and this
building was the town’s library?”
Laci responds, “That is correct, sir. May I assist you with an
inquiry?”
Joash quietly says, “Amazing. This city must be at least 3,000
years old, and it has an interactive computer.” Then he replies to
Laci, “Yes, I would like to know about the civilization who built
this city.”
Laci answers, “Of course, follow the red arrows on the floor.
They will lead you to the history section.”
Joash looks down and sees a series of red arrows appearing
on the floor. He follows them to a bookcase in the center of the
room. He takes out a book and notices that it has the same
strange writing as the first book he opened.
Joash says, “I can’t read this language. Could you help me
translate it?”
Laci replies, “Oh, my apologies. Since you don’t speak our
language, I should have guessed that you wouldn’t be able to
read it. Please replace the book.”
After Joash puts the book back on the shelf, he sees a blue
light run across the top of all the books. Laci says, “You should
be able to read them now.”
Joash pulls the book out, and he notices that he can now read
the cover. It reads The Teutonic Knights: Christian’s Quest.
Joash asks, “How did you do that?”
Laci responds, “Given your country’s current level of
technology, I don’t believe that you would understand.”
Joash asks, “How do you know my country’s level of
technology?”
Laci answers, “This city was built to monitor the development
of the nations that still occupy this world. Although you are the
first organic in this city in quite a long time, the city’s computers
continue to monitor the outside world. As a Library Artificial
Computing Intelligence, I am privy to any information compiled
by the city’s other computers. Your language identified the country
where you were born, or at least where you were raised.”
Joash asks, “Why was this city built to monitor our nation’s
development, and what happened to the people who built it?”
Laci replies, “The ones who built this city left it hundreds
of years ago. Their departure had something to do with them
wanting to interact with the outside world, instead of simply
observing it. Organics can be so irrational at times. As for the
reason this city was built, if you read the history books before
you, I am sure you will find your answer. You may also find the
answers to many other questions that I’m sure you have. However,
I do recommend that you start at the beginning.”
Joash asks, “Where is that?” One of the books begins to glow
and Joash tries to pull it out, but it won’t budge.
Laci says, “Please replace the book that you have now, before
you take out another. We must keep the library neat and tidy after all.”
Joash puts the book, Christian’s Quest back on the shelf and is then
able to pull out the glowing book. Joash begins to read the book,
and the following is what he read.
In 2159 B.C., there were three industrial civilizations on the
Earth. The first civilization was the Congs. The Congs were a
deceptive people whose only concern was the accumulation of
worldly treasures. They were just about to enter the atomic age
when this story takes place.
The second civilization was the Highlanders. The Highlanders
were a warrior people who had a great deal of civil liberties,
arguably the most important of these being the freedom of
religion. They had been traveling through space for about
one-hundred years, when this story takes place.
The third civilization was the Teutonics. The Teutonics were
a God-fearing people, and had been since one of the shepherd
kings told them about the one true God—Jehovah. The Teutonics
quickly accepted this belief and began to worship only Jehovah.
Since that day, the Teutonics were blessed with prosperity and
scientific achievement. They had begun colonizing space over
200 years before this story takes place. This story centers on the
Teutonics’ departure from Earth and their new home among the
stars.
The Teutonic Knights was an organization dedicated to
protecting the Teutonic citizens from both internal and external
threats. The Teutonic Knights were similar to the prophets of
Israel, in that they had a very close connection to God. God
talked to them both through the Spirit and through messengers.
