The blood pounded in her ears so hard that she could no longer hear what the stranger standing on her front porch was saying. She could see the young woman’s lips moving. But the world in which she stood was beginning to spin.
As Jean grabbed for the ornately carved front door to keep from collapsing onto the porcelain tiled floor, the young woman’s face contorted as waves of emotions washed over her. Jean fought to focus her eyes but noticed that the faded black t-shirt worn by the young woman became blurry and then began to swim before her eyes.
