Nicely Does It

Mr Grumbles is a poor old soul. He is seen as a pillar of the community, a stalwart of mankind, friend to all, benefactor to some, just a plain old wart to others.  Yet beneath the never ceasing image of the colossus of Ryde lies a sleeping giant. “A giant?” I hear you murmur…

Yes, a giant is my retort. Not the beanstalk climbing type. Not even the type to slay fiends or foes. No, he is just the type of man who believes in that illusive, yet endearing hope that in this aforementioned speedy and shadowy world is one last angel, one last fairy and Father Christmas; surely a giant amongst men.

To look at him you would not think twice. He is a man snuffling truffles along the highway of life. Smart of appearance, not quite in step with the latest fashion and always keen to show his best foot. Some would say he was trusty, some would say he was rusty. All would say, “Oh There is Mr Grumbles… stalwart, pillar….” You get the idea.

And now, dear reader we turn our focussed myopic retina onto the other starlet in this world we are watching; namely Miss Nicely.

To the entire world Miss Nicely is just that; nice. However, as we will come to see there is a torrent of undertones flowing through her veins, albeit flowing nicely.  She is seen as the darling of the village. The type of lady any man would give his right arm, leg, foot and eyebrow to call his own. Kind, generous and sweet Miss Nicely is loved by all, envied by some, cherished by a few. However Miss Nicely harbours a dark secret. For you see, she too holds onto the same illusive dream that Mr Grumbles clasps to his breast.

In her shapely yet modest appearance you would think you had blinked and glimpsed an angelic vision of an angel doing angelic and angel type things.

I now leave it to you reader to read, imagine and enjoy the unwinding never ending story of our latter day Romeo and Juliet; two good, honest people who try to find the truth in life. Will they? Ah, dear reader, patience.
