Love's Second Chance

November 1987

            He loved visiting the women’s dormitories. He went there for one reason, and the only ones who knew were him and the young ladies he visited. His briefcase swung by his side as he strut down the corridor, his chest protruded like a prize-winning rooster. He checked his watch confirming his promptness and proceeded to knock on the door. There was no answer. He knocked louder, becoming frustrated. The professor hated to be kept waiting, even for thirty seconds. At exactly six o’clock, the door opened and revealed a young lady donning a green and yellow head wrap, with a matching pant-set made of Kente cloth. The professor immediately noticed how the geometric design accentuated her figure. She could be no more than twenty or twenty-one at the most. Her dark brown, coffee-colored skin was flawless and she had the legs of a runner.

            “Good evening, Miss Olawanii,” he said, looking her up and down, and inspecting her as he sauntered into her room.

            “Hello, professor,” she said quietly as she closed the door behind him.

She crossed her arms defensively. Although she was taller and a little heavier, he made her feel extremely uncomfortable.
