Each issue has a life of its own and there have been many books published about the many topics you are about to read. But what you are about to read is a cornucopia of ideas that we Americans only dedicate a small portion of our day to. Some subjects only deserve a minute or two of our time but some need our time along with government’s issues.
By no means is the author of this book excluded from certain prejudices, acts, nor am I a racist, hateful, insensitive, unforgiving, vindictive individual, I just calls things as I see them. The main purpose of this book is to tackle “social”/”general” issues that sometimes make you go hmmmm. These are not issues that any ordinary Joe Smoe couldn’t figure out himself. The only problem is that not every ordinary Joe is exposed to as many things as I am on a day to day basis.
Born and raised in the inner-city of St. Louis, MO, going to a predominantly white university, I moved back to St. Louis to start my career in corporate America. I am now living in Dallas/Fort Worth, TX area working in an upscale community. I can relate to being on both sides of the fence and sometimes it isn’t fair, but such is life. During the day I am sometimes treated as what I am perceived as, a professional. At night I am also treated as a professional, just a professional of a lesser field, thug; hoodlum; drug dealer; etc. Do the cars we drive play a role in how we view each other. Does an SUV on big rims make me a thug. From 9-5 no, but anytime after 5pm, including nights & weekends, the perceptions change.
Just an example of what is to be read while I take you for a ride in America, as we know it. Some issues may be directed towards and only felt by blacks, some by whites, some by both, definitely by all. No one issue will be overanalyzed neither, I’ll leave that up to the readers. These are surface issues, problems that we notice on a daily yet no one ever wants to talk about them for obvious reasons. Some issues may not be public information, but there weren’t public bathrooms in the south until someone decided to do something about it and speak up against it. This isn’t an attack on any one person, culture, or group of people. What needs to be revealed will be! As you read on remember these are only things I have encountered during my lifetime. With that said one may begin to see that we all have more in common than we thought. “Based On What I Know”, I believe you know this too!!
REVELATION
Here is what I’ve come to believe. The reason we are where we are today is a cycle called “Life.” As adolescents everyday is actually just that, a “new day”. No day is the same no matter what you encounter. As you get older you enter the life cycle. For most of us life begins after high school and for others college. The “Life Cycle” is… going to work everyday, working in the same cubicle performing the same tasks, driving the same road to and from, pulling up to the same house, taking care of your kids (assuming you have some), watching the same old television programs, repeating the same phrases to your kids, spouse or significant other, having the same old conversations with loved ones, getting ready for the next day of work, going to bed only to wake the same time the next morning to do it all over again.
