About the Author
While taking a backcountry hike over 30 years ago R.L Smith started taking pictures of man-made stacks of rocks, which he later learned they were called cairns, and were used as trail markers. It was one of these trips that he fell in love with whole challenge of backpacking. He found solitude on the trails. It was this magical combination of solitude and the elusive cairn that brought to life"Miss Cairn, I Love You." The stories in the book are actual cairns he followed on his backpacking trips.
R.L Smith is an experienced, accomplished backpacker. He has completed hundreds of backpacking trips with his Boy Scout troops and fellow lovers of backpacking. He has accumulated over fifty days and nights on backcountry hikes in the Grand Canyon. Covering hundreds of miles of trails and loops hikes. He is actively involved with Boy Scouts of America. He has been an adult leader for Boy Scouts of America for over 36 years. He has been awarded the District Award of Merit and has received the Silver Beaver Award.
R.L Smith is happily married with five sons and six grandchildren. He and his wife (Judith Smith) have been married for over 43 years. They are both actively involved in Boy Scouts of America, their church and their community.
Smith, takes a very explicit interest in self-help and motivational seminars. It was that interest that pulled him through the many road blocks in his life, such as Esophageal Cancer. He survived this illness with the support of his family, the help of his doctors and will to live his life! The side effects of this illness have slowed down the process of his book, so without further ado it is my great pleasure to offer you "Miss Cairn, I Love You." enjoy! R.L Smith
