The cleaning lady Alma enters the apartment like she’s done for the past five years. The foul odor rushing through her nostrils causes her to gasp for air. She instinctively puts her hand over her nose and heads straight for the kitchen, thinking some meat or something was left out from last nights celebration had gone bad...very bad.
As she approached the kitchen the odor faded slightly, the stronger scent was coming from down the hall, near the master bedroom.
A deeply religious woman, Alma sensed evil beyond the threshold. It was her faith that moved her the two steps needed to seize her fear and enter the room. What lies on the bed initially confused her, but the reddish brown stains that drapes the white walls like curtains and the darker sprinkled droplets beside them, renders her senses to only one conclusion …death.
The lump of wrinkled flesh lay sideways on the bed and was drawn in, as if its insides were sucked out. A gaping hole in the chest, allows the sun to pour through; like water flowing through a funnel.
