The Awakening  (Challenge)

Time past and Joshua left home for a while.  When he return home it appeared that he was doing better and that was because he had been on medication, which he had no say so in.  After being home for a while I notice some changes in their conversation, which appeared to be off based, also I notice some changes in their actions which was out of the norm.  Thirty days had past and during this time he was not on any medication.  After observing the changes that  was taking place,  this is when the challenge and the reality that the mental illness call Schizophrenia became very real to me.

After all I knew had happen, 2 years had gone by since Joshua had been diagnose with this mental illness.  In my heart I still did not except that he had this disease, I still wanted answers to how this could happen and what cause this.  I wanted to believe they were wrong and that Joshua was going through some type of phase and that he would be the person he use to be, but I was so wrong (tears).

I begin to think about all the times I had participated in the jail ministry, always singing here and there, always trying to be of some help to others, before I knew it,  there was a chaotic situation in my house.  I said to myself (tears) I did not start praying for Joshua when he became troubled, but I had prayed for him all his life.  We prayed together, went to church and Sunday school,  he participated in youth actives, he had loving great grand parents, his family love him, no drug, no alcohol in the house, oh God! What happen (tears)?  I just could not believe some of the things that took place.

After an incident regarding Joshua, I gradually stop singing so much and I completely stop doing the jail ministry, but I never stop praying, or attending church.  I had to keep believing that no matter what was going on,  that prayer could change things.

One night,  which was just the start of many sleepiness nights,  I was lying on the couch , the lights were off, the only light showing came from the television.  Joshua came into the kitchen and sat at the table, keep in mind no lights were on.  I could see Joshua’s shadow from the gleaming light from the television.  As I lay there I thought I heard him say, they told me to kill you, at first I thought I had heard him wrong,  so I ask him,  what did you say? he repeated,  they told me to kill you, I ask who told you that,  he said the voices told me.  Of course I immediately raised up from the couch, turn on the lights and said don’t listen to those voices, it is nothing but demons talking to you.  I noticed the look on his face, a very serious look.  After this incident I knew I had to watch and pray more than I ever had.  Even after this,  I still did not realize, what I really was up against.  But I kept on praying.

Joshua had been off of mediation for at least 2 months, during this time he was in out of emergency often.  He would call the police often because he felt someone was in the house or on the property and that they were out to hurt him.  I tried to explain to the doctors what was going on and that I thought maybe he needed to be on medication.  It was so frustrating because no one seem to believe me.  An incident and some changes took place and finally I was able get him into a mental health program.

After the psychiatrist examine him they put him on medication.  In dealing with this type of illness they have to find out what works best for the person.  The medications seem to calm a little but we were still in and out of  the hospital (emergency).  He still call the police often, thoughts of suicide, hurting other people, people hurting him or trying to kill him did not ceased.
