Sliding outside the door and along the long corridor she dropped her guard to let Bergeron feel her presence, and waited for him to approach her. She slowly started walking away from where he was, quietly lifting up a drain in the floor; she dropped down into the sewer below the basement floor. Faith walked through the muck that flowed beneath the city. She could feel a large presence as it crept up on her and it was coming fast. She felt like an animal being stalked. Slowing her pace, she wanted to be caught, or at least let her hunter think they were going to catch her. Stepping around the corner, at the next cross section in the sewer system, she waited patiently. Slowly she began extending her talons, and protruding her fangs. Her eyes began to burn with anticipation; she could almost feel the flesh tearing between her talons. As the presence appeared, Faith lunged slashing at the beast with every ounce of strength she had. To her surprise the beast dodged her attack and grabbed her, throwing her into the smooth concrete wall of the tunnel. “Faith… It’s me” Markus stood there holding her firmly against the wall, his arms fully extended. His eyes still glowing amber. Markus’s words were a little slurred being that his fangs still protruded past his lip. Faith stopped immediately and stared at Markus with surprise, then with anger. “You have been following me all this time? I’ve been leading you away?” Faith snapped “WHERE’S GARETH?” “Gareth’s fine, he’s on his way back to headquarters.” Looking down the tunnel. “And no, dear you were moving away from them.” Markus turned her around and shined the flashlight down the tunnel, where he had just came.

Phoenix Walker was born in Topeka, Kansas where she still lives with her family today. She is a mother of four children, who has always loved writing. After losing her father in 2006, she realized that life is too short not to carry your dreams. Her dream has always been to become a published author. The day this book was published her dream came true.
