About the Book

In the year of 1844, Ellie O’Neal is suddenly orphaned at the age of seventeen. She sells the family farm she lives on in Ohio to a neighbor and begins her dream of traveling to California.

Hoping to join a wagon train in St. Louis, she travels by foot through Indiana and Illinois, trusting in God to guide her.

The people she meets and the events that occur to try to change her mind are what gives this story life.

Romance crops up but Ellie doesn’t let it deter her from fulfilling her dream.

Can she still her doubts and continue on? She is determined to survive on her own against all odds.

About the Author

Jan and her husband live in a suburb of Indianapolis, Indiana. They have been married for 31 years and have three children and two cats. They are members of a Fundamental Baptist church.

This is the second book that Jan has written with more in the planning stages, including one more in the Destiny series.

Jan’s faith has led her through the many steps she has taken to begin writing and in all other aspects of her life. She walks with the Lord daily and considers Him her friend and confidante.

Tragedies in her life have brought her even closer to God and will be the basis of another book.

She says, “These tragedies could have shaken my faith, but instead have given me greater understanding of how God works and how He is always there for us to lean on. I do not know how I could have survived without my daily talks with Him.

“He is there for us twenty-four/seven.”
