Ready or Not “ Ladies Hear My Voice”
When I said I do
I didn’t realize it meant I would have to do
Everything he wanted
When he wanted it done
Take away my identity and wear
The badge he has won
The day we got married
I was so happy
He was my dream, my fairytale, my everything
And it transcended into something beautiful
Throughout the night; going into our honeymoon
At the moment I envisioned the good life
As soon as we got back home
The characteristics shown, were not his usual character
I began seeing many days of unusual manner
I knew that I would face bad weather with him
I was in bed with a headache
I ached so much nothing was to touch
Me at that moment; but he did and I said no
He said ready or not here I go
Tears streamed down my face
Hurting and embarrassed, in dismay
On what’s happening now
I yelled in a crying voice
My body is not yours to touch whenever you want
He responded “when you said I do; you made it mine”
And next time
When I want to make love
Yes love he called it
Assume the position
Read or not
Get on top and he’d better enjoy the ride
I was not ready; this is not me
I realize I’m now married with no identity
And sadly today,
I still carry his name.

About the Author
Pamela Y. Abner was born in
Growing up, Ms. Abner noticed that everything about poetry excited her and came naturally. She decided to extend her thoughts and voice in what is today known as “Spoken Word,” reciting at coffee houses and speaking at special events. She began to see how she could captivate the minds and hearts of others with her words. How did this once quiet girl, living in the inner city, transform herself into an extrovert? She realized that her voice speaks powerful volumes. This book is about the experiences of life and love - seen through a 360 degree perspective.
Ms. Abner wrote this book to reveal the optimistic and pessimistic views of people who live through the catastrophes, challenges and pleasures of life. As you read these poems, she hopes you will feel as though she is talking to you personally and, ideally, expressing thoughts and feelings that reflect back to your life.
