In 1981, we sent away for a booklet advertised in Moneysworth (no longer published) by Premier Publishing titled; The Secrets of the 200 M.P.G. Carburetor. The same Thomas Ogle was mentioned in their 1981 Update. Many of the known systems for greater fuel economy were named and a follow-up on the inventors with patent availability was listed. On Thomas Ogle all that was listed was this:
“Have heard from sources in El Paso that TOM OGLE sold out to ADVANCE FUEL SYSTEMS of Seattle, Washington for $250,000 – while retaining 20% interest in his device that got 100 MPG on a 1970 Ford…”1
We have in our files some of the responses to our inquiry of spring 1982 with AFS. We talked with one of their CEO’s and he told us that Tom had died at 25 years of age from a drug overdose and that his device was a phony.
So, AFS paid a cool ¼ Mill for nothing but a fraud? We doubt it. Not after reading their high tech color brochures displaying their expensive sophisticated electronic fuel injection system which only increases mileage by 10 – 30% compared to Ogle’s 500% increase.
No way AFS engineers could have been fooled and swindled, not in the face of their impressive research staff. They certainly must have had access to common engineering formulas for horsepower/energy obtainable for the correct, complete combustion and use of gasoline.
