Obey Your Thirst
Are you a person that is willing to be honest, even for a moment? Think about what’s going on in your own life right now. What if in life there were rewards for being the most attractive person—would you win? What if all disputes were settled immediately with boxing gloves rather than guns, knives and bombs—would you win? What if compliments were only given to people who drive brand-new cars with trendy hairstyles—would you receive accolades? What if your life were judged by faith in the right things—do you believe in the right things?
Some of you get more pleasure from spending your time with fake people who feed you lies about how great you are and how much they love you. Somehow, deep inside, you know these things are all lies, but honestly, you are too much of a coward to face the truth and stand on your own two feet—so who are you?
Everyone is subject to obedience and is a slave to someone or something—whom do you serve?
If you don’t think you are obedient to something, listen to this. Since the time you were conceived, you were obedient to your mother’s protection and nourishment. Then, when you attended school, you were obedient to your teachers. If you joined a sports team, you were obedient to your coaches. When you got a job, you were obedient to your boss. When you earned money, you were obedient to the government. When you got married, you were obedient to your spouse. When you drive your car, you are obedient to the traffic laws and law enforcement authorities. Get it?
Sooner or later, you’ll come to the place where you realize that your friends, the nightclubs, the money, your physical appearance, your health and material things will never fill that hole in your heart. You know the hole I’m talking about—that emptiness that you know is there that you can’t really explain.
The hole that you’ve tried stuffing with everything you can imagine, but it only left you broke, busted and maybe addicted to something. Everyone thirsts for something—truth is, only Jesus Christ Himself can satisfy your thirst.
John 14:6 says, “Jesus answered, I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” (NIV)
People come and go, things come and go, possessions come and go, but Jesus Christ will still be the only way. You don’t have to like it or even believe it, and that still won’t change the fact that He is your only hope.
Put down your popcorn, your party favors, your tough attitude and think seriously for once in your life about the things that matter most to you. Where will you spend eternity? What good would it be for you to spend your entire lifetime making tons of money, getting drunk, hanging with friends and partying like it’s 1999, yet lose your soul in the end because you are full of either pride, lust or arrogance. So what’s it going be for you?
Do you want a real life, real joy, and real peace, or do you want to just continue trying to figure out things on your own? You are a created being and you were created with a purpose beyond your own limited understanding. Your purpose is to worship your creator and fellowship with Him and others. That being said, what’s it going to take for you to believe?
What’s the point?
Like it or not, everyone desires and needs genuine peace in their lives. Chances are, filling your life with things has left you emptier and more miserable than when you began. Only a deliberate relationship with Jesus Christ will fill the void in your life.
Just Think.
What are your top three goals in life—why? Which of your goals will encourage other people and make their lives better?

John 14:6 says, “Jesus answered, I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” (NIV)
