I stopped to take a look in the miror. Since Mike had come into this house, I'd been brutally scarred, assaulted, a gun pointed at my head; On top of all that, I've been smacked by a greasy stranger. I had to leave Mike's body lying there. What was I to do?
It was trash pick up day. I put my blood drenched clothing into a garbage bag and placed it deep inside the dumpster. After my shower, I threw on my low-riding denim blue jeans and a red t-shirt and lay across my bed. I must have looked out my bedroom window a thousand times in fear of the police walking up to my front porch to handcuff me and take me to prison.
I closed the curtains and turned the lights off. The ringing of the phone startled me. "I hope this isnt the police." I thought, taking a deep breath when I saw that the call was from my best friend Jennifer. Before I could say hello, she yelled "Nick I have been trying to call you. Are you busy?"
I answered "Yes!"
She replied "Not to busy for this. Turn it on channel 8 news. They found your boy Mike lying in his truck, drenched in blood." I shook my head, I know I should not have left Mike's body for dead, but what was I supposed to do?

Especially to those who wait humbly on him for their answers to come. This novel I wrote has details about a struggling positive thinking girl named Nicole (Nick) who grew up around a negative environment full of rapes, drug trades and fights. Her mother, Isis, didnt make her life any easier. Who would have thought that her own mother was the one who hooked Nicole up with the crack dealer, Mike, just to pay off the tab from the drugs that her mother owed. After Nicole realized what her mother had done and leaving Mike's body for dead, her mother became more furious of Nicole, told her she would amount to nothing, hit Nicole so hard in the jaw that it knocked her off her feet and drove her to leave the house. Nicole left the house with a few items, but left a package that was worth a lot behind. What was it? Did she get it in good timing? Who did she meet?
Sometimes it may feel like we are fighting battles that no one can win, but as for Nicole Salina Lewis...she knew that even throughout all the struggles, she was determined to find a better life for herself.
Have patience in life, and the answer will come.
About the Author
La Sonya Jones Lamine was born in Michigan. There, she attended Cooley High School-for photography studies, Oakland Community College-Radiology technology, Academy of Court Reporting-for stenography/shorthand studies, Macomb College for her English/ creative writing/ theatre education and Rochester College for French language and Organizational Leadership and Communication studies.
La Sonya enjoys acting on stage, performing Arts, writing music sitting by her window when it rains, frying her catfish with New Orleans batter and watching the sun set and rise from her balcony. In the Nick of Time is her first writing debut.
