THE MAN OF the moment is actually you. Let’s not waste time looking elsewhere. Look neither left nor right. If you happen by a mirror now, I am referring to the face on the mirror. It is you yourself, and no one else. It does not matter your gender or complexion; your height is not part of the bargain, nor is the degree of your beauty or otherwise. Whatever the contour or context of your natural attributes, you are the man of the moment. That you are alive and reading these pages shows that you have the breath needed for now. The world was meant for you, not you for the world. That is to say that all the riches, the elements and appurtenances heaped on the universe by the beneficent God, were meant to be at your beck and call. That means that as you appropriate the assets with the right hand, you must arrest the liabilities with the left. You are the one being awaited to speak, to declare, to claim, to command, to move and to act.
You are the engine room and the driving force of the world. As a world-changer, nothing happens without man. You are the power house of the world; the soul of the earth. You are the wheel of progress, with the power of God as the catalyst in the inside of you. You are to make the first move, do the first check, throw the first punch; you are to take the first step, say the first word, do the first push, take the initiative; you are to kick the first ball, write the first word, laugh the first laugh and cry the first cry; you are to clap the first clap and sing the first tune; you are to beat the first beat and decode the first code. YOU are the man of the moment.
You are the one equipped to affect your generation today and tomorrow; the generation pusher. It is you and not the angels, for whom salvation was made; you, armed with the keys to the kingdom, and with a balance between sanity and insanity; between courage and fear; between good and evil; between aggression and meekness; between smile and frown; between humility and pride. YOU: the man of the moment, and are being awaited to take a stand and showcase your calling and prove your mettle.
The man of the moment operates on the right side of life. The right side is the right side, and not to be confused with the right-hand side. The latter is variable depending on your location on the compass, but the right side is always the right side. It is the side of wisdom, knowledge and common sense; the right side is the side of relevance and importance; the side of sanity and plenty; it is the proper location that guarantees proper allocation. It is not the popular, but the reserved side!
Life can be likened to a game of football; there are moves and stops, manoeuvres and dribbling, shots and misses; there are speed and endurance, fair-play and tackles. In football, you encounter intrigue, power-play and horse-trading, even match-fixing. There are mood swings of joy and sadness, banters, slaps and weeping. There are off-sides and on-sides; but most importantly, football is all about scoring goals. The red cards and yellow cards may attract attention more than the screaming colours of the jerseys, but the sound of the whistle confirming a goal is what tells a passer-by that something significant has just happened. Goals!
A balloon in the air has no mind of its own; it flows to any part of the compass as the wind directs. It is like a ship without rudder that flows with the current. Goal achievers learn early to practice selective perception, or what one artiste called ‘planned neglect.’ This is to make your brain semi-permeable, discriminating between bitter-sweet. You turn a blind eye, seeing some and not some; develop a deaf ear, hearing some and not some. What do you need to see: the goal ahead of you or the monstrous problem of the defence? What do you want to hear: the booing noise of the opponent or the sound of victory? What do you want to experience: the cynic smile of the oppressor or the joy of laughter in your courtyard?
