California was the place most people came trying to make a career in music. Most of the major recording artist of the 1940s through the 1960s had their roots in California. They came not only looking for work playing music, but for work of any kind. The great depression drove thousands of folks from the central and southern states west in search of work. Many of these young men and women had some musical ability and they used it to gain experience that may someday lead to becoming a professional musician or recording artist.

About the Book
This book tries to describe the popularity and economic effect on southern California. It also tells about some of the people involved in the music industry. It is the first hand account of my experience in country music upon coming to southern Cal. It is based on my memories of the musicians and radio disc jockeys who played the records.
About the Author
The author came to Southern California, in 1950 and became involved in the music business. He became a free-lance photographer providing photos to country publications as well as publicity photos for entertainers and radio stations.
