Alien Legacy

On the way back home we rode in silence. I think all of us were having different thoughts about the place we had just visited. I tried to imagine that night and what I would have done if faced with the same situation. It’s just hard to say, none of us knows for certain what we would have done if faced with what my family had faced. It’s so easy to say what we would have done. But would we? “Now do you see what were talking about!” Billy Ray shouted at everyone. Now do you believe us?” Billy was hysterical and now everyone knew why. Lucky helped his momma get up off the floor and by this time the three smaller children were up wanting to know what was going on. “Vera ya’ll get the kids and get in the back room and hide. Don’t come out till I tell you to.” Lucky told his wife. About this time they heard another gun shot ring out from the living room. They all ran in there, JC had just fired a shot through the window with his 20 gauge single barrel shot gun. Billy Ray followed behind and gave out another shot when he saw the clawed hand come up to the window with big glowing eyes. When Billy Ray shot the creature, it flipped and disappeared. “They just flip and take off running. What the devil are they? Billy Ray wondered. “That’s just it, maybe they’re the devil himself coming to get us.” Lucky told the family. Glennie started praying and Lucky thought this is no time to be getting holy, but he also knew they could use all the help they could get right now. The family stayed in the house and sat in silence for what seemed like eternity. Everyone waiting for the other to make a decision on what to do next. “I’m going out there and I’m getting rid of these damn monsters! You women get the kids back in the back room like I told you to do and stay there!” They didn’t question him this time, they knew when he was like this it was time to do what he said. Lucky and Billy Ray went out into the front yard. JC, O.P. and Glennie watched from the door and windows. Somehow Glennie thought to herself, I just have to see for myself. I have to be sure of what I saw earlier. JC stood with gun ready in case one of them tried to get in the house. “Look, up in the maple tree!” Someone yelled out. There it was sitting on one of the branches like it belonged there! They were able to get a real good look at the little man not believing what their eyes were seeing. Both men fired on the creature knocking it to the ground. When it fell from the tree it just floated, the men couldn’t believe their eyes. Just as Lucky turned toward the house there came another one coming from around the corner. He shot the creature, it sounded like a metal bucket being hit and Lucky wondered if it was the same one he had just knocked off the roof a few minutes ago. As soon as the shot hit the little being, it floated to the fence. Lucky shot at it again and it took off running into the woods. That was it, Lucky had had enough. Every time they shot the creatures down, they came right back. He was pretty sure they were seeing the same ones over and over. He knew that if a 12 gauge shotgun wasn’t doing anything to them, then it was time to do something else.
