From Chapter 2 ...... Aunt Josie lowered her head, and every-one followed suit, except Uncle Earl, who just kept guzzling on his bottle of beer. She asked God to bless everyone at the table, including Jenny's baby. Then, she gave thanks for the weight Cecelia had gained, and asked that her recovery be complete. "Amen." "An---Amen!" Uncle Earl said, swinging a bottle of beer across the table. "An thank ya God---fer ma bear---an fer ma purdy Jo----zey." Loud gulps sounded from his throat, and foam ran down his mustache as the bottle tipped straight up over his mouth. From Chapter 9 ..... A vision of Cecelia in her yellow dress came to Myanna every night. She started sneaking in through the dark hallway everyday after school and stood over her to see if she was still breathing. "Goodbye," she whispered each time, feeling sick to her stomach. Myanna couldn't stay away. It was like a magnetizing force, compelling her to be present at the impact of death. She left her one day feeling a little sicker than usual. At dinner, she barely tasted her food, with Aunt Josie's anxious eyes never leaving her face. She was put to bed early, and she slept feeling the gloom of death all night. Also From Chapter 9 ....... "You finally came, Nick. I've been waiting for you." Stella was dressed in only her under- wear. She stood up from a blanket on the floor with arms pushing against her breasts to show as much cleavage as possible. A drunken, love tormented expression was on her face. Panties flared out at the bottom and were held up by a string made from the same jersey like material, tied at the waist. All of a sudden, the knot uncoiled, and her panties fell to the floor at the instant she noticed it was Captain Cory, and not Nick at the doorway. She looked from him to soft pink material curled around her ankles, and let out a loud scream. The captain lost his aplomb. He held onto the wall of the hallway for support , laughing helplessly at the shortage of rubber the war effort had caused. Women's panties were not on the government's list of priorities.

About the Book
This novel, together with its characters, is a fictional story about the era the author grew up in. The Escobar family has a hard time coping with many problems after they are deserted by their father. Myanna, a young girl, is burdened with prophetic dreams about the fate of people she loves. Nick (Myanna's brother), who has become the father figure in the family, does his best to help her and another sister Cecelia, who is dying from a ghastly disease. Mama Escobar has an insane idea that she can nurse her oldest daughter back to health without any medical help. In the process, she forgets about the rest of her family. An elderly couple, Uncle Earl, and Aunt Josie, relieve Mama Escobar of her duties to the two younger children Myanna and Jeff. Uncle Earl's Okie accent, and his comical antics provide the balance needed for the turmoil in the story. World war II, the taboo about sex, and lyrics from songs of that era will surely have a nostalgic effect on anyone who takes the time to read "Myanna" by Lillian Silva .......
About the Author
Lillian Silva attended a local college in the city where she was born and raised, San Bernardino, California. Having lived through the depression and World War II, she was able to portray a true to life rendition of that era. She continues to write about her rich Hispanic culture to this day.
