About the Book

There are just two central questions addressed throughout this book.  Are we going to re-narrow the fight with terrorism or let the conflict broaden to involve whole cultures?  And, how do we keep American society strong and stable internally?

If you are dead sure of your set of beliefs now and forever…

If you don’t like even trying to imagine walking a mile in the other guy’s shoes, or having your assumptions and beliefs questioned by evidence and logic… Stop!  Don’t read this book.  It will only get your blood pressure up and frustrate you.  You’ve been warned.

If you want a focused war on terrorists but don’t want to drift ever closer to all-out, full-breadth, cultural war…

If you want America to be a strong and wise leader for a truly free world…      read on.

About the Author

Doug Matheson has been teaching science in a rural area of Oregon for the last decade.  He has been active in coaching, writing, and enjoying his family.  His insight into how America is perceived around the world, the mix of distortion and reality behind those perceptions, and the results of our actions in the world comes though, from his prior experience.

He began broadening his horizons early.  He grew up in India and graduated from high school in Singapore.  Then, after finishing his BS at Walla Walla College in 1980, he worked in Beirut, Lebanon, for one school year.

After finishing his MS at the University of Oregon in 1984, he worked in Canada for three years.  Then, from 1991 to 1994 he worked in Rwanda, evacuating a few days after the genocide began.  The most important factor though in developing a wide perspective has been,  “deliberately cultivating a habit of questioning and analyzing pretty much everything, even deep personal beliefs, and looking at evidence.”
