About the Book

This quite humorous book was written for my daughter, ROSE, so she may learn that life's teachings sometimes come from the most unlikely of sources, and they don't cost a penny to obtain.

I've broken this book up into two parts: first, a desciption of some of those who influenced my life, and then second, some real funny (and perhaps, some not too funny) stories about growing up in the Bronx, in the '60's.

I'm Cold…Put On a Sweater, was a favorite adage of my mom, and I've since learned that it’s sometimes just the easiest way to get your thought (or demand) across.

I hope you enjoy reading this as much as I did writing it.

About the Author

Tom Mitchell was born and raised in the Bronx, New York in the early 60’s. “You couldn’t just grow up by yourself, because you’d probably screw it up.”  His book, named after his mother’s favorite adage, contains descriptions, and stories about those who influenced his life while his humor abounds in his writing. Although Tom graduated with a degree in Accounting and a minor in Religious Studies in 1982, he has delved into his suppressed creative side, especially since being diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease in 2002. “I sort of made an agreement with God. He asked me to carry His Cross. I said ‘OK’, if I could carry it to places even I have never been.  He’s been pretty good to me about that.”

Tom is 46, and has a daughter, Rose, for whom this book is for.

“Some people are simply not meant to be millionaires. That’s why I count life a nickel at a time.”
