The role of private education is explained along side with state funded education. The book analyses many varied educational topics such as advocating alternative methods of financing education, justifying why private education should not be abolished in certain countries, advocating governmental aid and encouragement to the private sector of education.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

 

Dr. Samarakoon is the president of two private colleges, London College Dublin in Ireland and London College Dublin in Bulgaria. He and his son own the colleges.  London College Dublin, founded in 1999 has quickly become one of Dublin's Leading Business, Hotel Management and English Language Schools. The college is recognised by the Irish Department of Education for teaching of English as a Foreign Language and is a member of the American Hotel and Lodging Association and its educational institute.  Prior to London College Dublin, Dr. Samarakoon owned a private college in London from 1987 to 1998.

 

Samarakoon’s educational credentials include a Ph.D. in Education from a  university in the United States, an M.A. in Education from the University of London, and a degree in Philosophy & Theology from a university in Italy.  He is currently doing a research degree on Vienna Convention 1964 on diplomatic relations and privileges of honorary  consuls.

 

Dr. Samarakoon has been in education since 1970.  His professional experience includes the positions of teacher, lecturer and administrator.  He has been Head of the faculty and a teacher in inner London schools. He was a lecturer at the Further Educational Institutes in London.

 

His professional credentials include serving as a member in the standing committee for education at the University of London and an appointment as Honorary Consul for Sri Lanka in Ireland.
