About the Author

Here is our story and why I wrote the book “Eternity Commitment”.  Dr. Dusty and I are lifelong companions and have an Eternity Commitment instead of marriage.

I met Dusty two years ago.  We had something very real in common – a shared past.  We each lost most of our savings and retirement in divorces. She had to declare bankruptcy and I lost over half a million dollars. We both had non-working unmotivated spouses and were taken to the cleaners in our divorce settlements.  We both decided to never marry again.

It was obvious the financial structure of “marriage” had some real problems when hard-working people like us were taken advantage of by our spouses using the “system.”  We discovered that we were not aberrations in the system; that many other people had experienced equally horrific divorces. As we studied the situation it became clear that current marriage laws have nothing to do with love, faith or lifelong commitment. They have everything to do with a 50/50 business partnership defined by the state in which you reside. Neither of us realized we were forming a partnership when we married. There were no advance warnings, guidebooks, not even mild cautions about the financial aspects of marriage. After comparing notes from our failed marriages it became readily apparent that what the states sanction in a marriage is not a commitment between two people, but a commingling of everything financial.  Income, debt, savings and liabilities are all owned by the community of marriage. It is a business partnership without accountability. Check your state’s family law sometime. You will find no reference to the personal or faith-based lifelong commitment.  If one person wants out of a marriage, the courts will grant it even if there are no reasons. We recognized that in far more cases than states would care to admit, marriage creates immoral, self-serving, parasitic behavior and ultimately greed, manipulation and divorce. Rather than preserving marriage and families, the state is actually fomenting divorce.

In love, but determined not to be married again, Dusty and I designed a new relationship structure where we could share common household expenses without commingling our larger finances. We structured the financial aspects of our relationship as a joint venture, not a 50/50 partnership. I “proposed” to share eternity with her and gave her an eternity ring as a symbol of my commitment. This was the first Eternity Commitment. With finances separated there have been no conflicts over money or spending/saving philosophies or habits.

Inspired by our success, I wrote a book on how to structure your own Eternity Commitment.  When we finished the rough draft of book we decided to count the benefits of having an Eternity Commitment instead of marriage.  We came up with a list of 50 reasons (YES -- 50 real reasons personally, professionally and financially!)  to have an Eternity Commitment instead of marriage.  We knew we were on to something significant.  I verified my legal and financial conclusions with two attorneys and an IRS tax specialist. Rebecca Kleinman, Esq. shared our enthusiasm with the concept and designed a legal document to capture the financial structure of the Eternity Commitment.

The EC is a lifelong relationship structure where you never get divorced. It is what faith-based relationships were before the states enacted family laws in the early 1900’s. The EC is the tradition of marriage under a new name because state lawmakers hijacked the original institution and made it a business/financial structure and a taxed entity.

With an EC you don’t marry for money, blackmail a spouse over money, or divorce for money. Gold-digging is not part of the EC lexicon. An EC is all about love and companionship for eternity.  Not money and possessions.
