About the Book

In today’s society, young girls are faced with many challenging issues for example peer pressure, school safety, chatroom safety, personal safety, love of self, education and HIV/AIDS.  Many of these pressures draw girls to choosing the wrong paths. This book is an educational and empowering tool for young girls, parents, families, educators, coaches and many others.

Girls will be empowered to make the right decision.  In addition, Girl Power encourages girls all over the world to love themselves and believe and know that they can make the right choice.  Understanding the true meaning of beauty, not allowing society to brainwash our daughters in believing that “pencil thin is in,” and facing real life issues are within the pages of this book.  It is time to be real, be honest and talk to our girls.

About the Author

The author was born in Telfair County Georgia in 1972.  During her elementary and secondary education, Robin was very active in school activities and sports.   She earned her high school diploma from Miami Northwestern Senior High School located in the heart of the Liberty City area in Miami, Florida.  In addition, she ranked eighth in her graduating class.  Florida A&M University located in Tallahassee, Florida is where she earned her Bachelor of Science Degree.

In 1996, the author began her career at the Broward County Sheriff’s Office as a Detention Deputy Sheriff.  Always challenging herself to do more, in April 1999, she embarked into a new territory at the Sheriff’s Office as a Deputy Sheriff.  As a Deputy Sheriff, she was responsible for patrolling the streets of South Broward County Florida.  After the birth of her daughter, she transferred to a civilian position inside the jail.  The civilian position title was Detention Program Specialist.  Unknowingly, this position would challenge the author on a daily basis.  Inside the jail, Robin facilitated a court-ordered educational Substance Abuse Program (SAP) for female inmates.  Many of these females were involved in the Drug Court System.  After working hard and continuously searching for ways to make the program better for the female inmate population, she was reassigned by her Program Manager to the Stockade Boot Camp Facility.  The Boot Camp Program was established for direct filed juveniles and young adults.  Boot Camp included male and female inmates, and it was established to operate as a para-military unit.  The environment was structured.  The author facilitated a Life Skills Program for the Boot Camp cadets.  The Life Skills Program addressed Self-Care and Hygiene, Nutrition, Physical Fitness, Substance Abuse, Anger Management, assist cadets with Problem Solving Resolution, Crisis Intervention, Financial Literacy, Sexually Transmitted Diseases and HIV/AIDS Awareness and Education, Pre-Release Planning (Jobs Skills, Interview Techniques, Dress for Success, Oral Presentations) and obtaining bus passes and housing for the homeless inmate population.

The author, along with her colleagues and supervisors, established a network base of community resources for the inmate population.  Robin continuously networked to add new resources that would benefit the inmates.  The community resources and faith-based organizations would enter the facilities to conduct presentations and seminars, support, encourage and offer tools and resources to assist the inmates with making a transition back into the community.  Robin continuously conversed with the community resources to ensure that the inmates had an opportunity to be exposed to trade and vocational schools, employment offices, starting their own business, military, shelter with educational and work programs, GED Programs and a host of other opportunities.  She spent an enormous amount of time speaking with the inmates and addressing issues.

In 2006, the author once again made a decision to challenge herself.  She left the criminal justice arena.  Robin had witnessed young people entering the criminal justice system, and young girls were a part of this system.  As a Detention Deputy Sheriff assigned to Booking, she encountered individuals accused of causing harm to children.  Some of the violations included stealing their innocence.  Saving Our Daughters Movement is through education and awareness.

The author is a vegetarian, Certified Natural Health Professional (CNHP), Certified Personal Trainer, Yoga Instructor and President of Empowering Seminars For Women, Inc.  She educates individuals on “Taking Charge of Their Health the Natural Way.”
