CHAPTER 1
Jessica Brooks brushed her teeth so hard Friday morning that her gums started to bleed. She obviously had other things on her mind. She was visualizing Antonio Gonzales at the beach playing volley ball with no shirt on. Then her mother, Paulina Spears, walked in the bathroom to remind her that the bus would be there in about 15 minutes.
“Today is Friday, that means its test day.” Her mother said, as Jessica washed her face.
“I know, Mom, I know,” she replied, feeling harassed again about school by her mother.
“This time at least try to make a better grade in Mr. Hall’s class, please.” Her mother spun around leaving Jessica to finish getting ready.
Jessica headed towards the kitchen, where her younger bother and step-dad, Ronald Spears had breakfast waiting on the table. She grabbed two muffins and a glass of orange juice before Ronald started to talk.
“I got a call from Mr. Hall last night.” Mr. Spears stated.
“You did!” said Jessica, exaggerating her words. She thought to herself, ‘Here they go again, always getting into my business.’
“Yes, I did and he told me. ‘If Miss Brooks doesn’t complete her assignments, she’s going to fail my class.’ ”
After Mr. Spears finished talking, he took out his wallet and pulled out twenty dollars. He held it up for her as she went passed him.
“Thanks, Dad.” Jessica whispered in his ear as she hugged him on her way out the door to go to the bus stop.
Her friend, Jennifer Davis, was already at the bus stop bragging about the party she was having after school. They hugged each other as they quoted some words of inspiration. “No matter how bad the weather may be it will shine again and you can’t stop the sun from shining.”
“So, do you think your mom will let you come to the party tonight?” asked Jennifer.
“No, but my dad will.” Jessica responded.
When Jessica got to school, she went straight to her locker to get an art pad and some colored pencils for Mr. Hall’s class. While in the hallway she saw Timothy Jones at his locker, getting his books ready for class. Timothy was Jennifer’s boyfriend; they met about six months ago at the state fair. When Tim laid eyes on her, the first thing he noticed about Jennifer was the way her outfit matched her beautiful brown eyes. To most boys Jennifer Davis was a waste of time. She was hard to get, unless you had a strong conversation.

About the Author
The miraculous power of prayer drew authors Almoine Powell and Patricia Spain to share their love for Jesus Christ. They feel the Holy Spririt directed their words.
In mid-2004 Patricia and Almoine crossed paths in a setting for troubled teens. Patricia was able to influence and encourage Almoine to strive to exceed his surroundings. He is now enrolled at Southern University in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, working toward a degree in business. Despite his troubled past he has goals to excel and daily invests time to encourage and mentor other young people with a simliar past.
Patrica is a nurse who has spent the majority of her life encouraging young people by teaching about the power of God's love at every opportunity. Her philosophy is that we all have an ability to suceed in life but we must make a conscious effort to do well in everything. She believes Almoine will be a determining factor in the success of other young people coming out of a troubled life.
Both are currently working on writing separate sequels to follow the lives of Jessica and Jennifer and others in their lives.
